Machining of very large, angled workpieces

Machine type: VSC 2-1760 XTS

Task:

Machining the outer side of one leg of the workpiece. The surface to be machined is not positioned at a 90° angle to the second leg of the workpiece.

Workpieces:

Large, angled workpieces

Solution:

The workpiece is clamped centrally in a clamping fixture with multiple vises and hydraulic swing clamps so that vibrations during machining are minimized as much as possible.

Special features:

  • Elevated machine design, allowing the leg of the workpiece to be machined to be up to 1200 mm long. The non-machined leg may be up to 2600 mm long.
  • Since the holes and the surface are not positioned at a 90° angle to the second leg, the clamping fixture can be tilted by up to ±3°.

Working area:

X-traverse range: 1760 mm
Y-traverse range: 600 mm
Z-traverse range: 850 mm

Clamping surface:

Special clamping fixture for a workpiece with two legs measuring 1200 x 2600 mm, with a width up to 200 mm and thickness up to 80 mm

Spindle:

Power (with 40% DC): max. 40 kW
Torque (with 40% DC): max. 255 Nm
Speed range:  8000 rpm

Tool changing system:

XTS tool magazine with 22 tool pockets, SK 40

CNC-system:

Heidenhain Steuerung TNC640 with TNC7 (GEN2) drive components

Additional equipment:

  • Additional machine frame underneath the machine bed for machining particularly large workpieces
  • Automatic doors
  • Suspended and movable control panel
  • Clamping pressure of the hydraulic centering clamps manually adjustable
  • Handwheel
  • External control cabinet
  • Air purge protection for measuring systems
